1. Discuss how a felony case may travel through the criminal justice system starting with the intake of an accused into the system until a resolution of the case creates an exit for a defendant. (See Figure 2.1)
2. The case, Hurtado v. California , 110 U.S. 516 (1884) determined that the use of a grand jury was not an essential step that a system of fair justice required. Discuss why the Court decided the case the way it did. Is the right to a grand jury indictment an essential of due process?
