Read the article “The Deadly Choices at Memorial.” The article recounts decisions made by many professionals (administrative, medical, nursing, legal, etc.) at or involving Memorial Hospital in New Orleans, LA in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
Identify all of the issues which you believe involve ethical dimensions. Phrase the ethical issue in the form of a question and then answer the question in sufficient detail. Your grade on this exam will be based on how well you phrase the ethical questions and on how well you answer them. You should identify at least 10 questions, but if you believe there are more, include them also.
Read the article, “The Wrongfulness of Euthanasia” beginning on page 592 of the text after having read “The Deadly Choices of Memorial” from question 1.
Do you believe that any of the staff members at Memorial engaged in the practice of euthanasia. If so, why? If not, why not? Your answer should be based on your personal beliefs and should cite pertinent facts and circumstances in support of your opinion.
